Energy labels have a new look

You may have noticed in the store or online that when you buy light fittings and most appliances, you see more often the letters B or C next to the energy class. As of this year, there are new rules for energy labels. For example, the A++ class is a thing of the past.

For greater clarity and in view of the constant technological developments, the European Union has announced an update of the energy labels for most appliances on 1 March 2021. The new labels will be mandatory on all luminaires from 1 September.

And what does the current energy label of the luminaire look like?

The labels are clearer and easier to understand. It is easier for consumers to decide which product to choose when making a purchase.

The main change is the abandonment of the A+, A++ and A+++ classes and a return to the A to G scale. The most efficient product is labelled A and the least efficient one G. Products from one existing class (e.g. A+++) can be placed in a different class (e.g. B or C) from this year, as the testing process for products has also changed.

A new feature of energy labels is the QR code. When scanned with a smartphone or tablet, it displays a European product database with more detailed non-commercial information on the product.

Energy labels with the new scale and QR codes can of course also be found on all TESLA lighting packaging.
